The theme of the night was “Lets Grow Together” hosted by Take Stock in Children’s annual awards celebration at the Brickell Bay Towers in Downtown Miami, Florida.
On the program were several keynote speakers and supporters of the program.
Among the agenda was the recognition of several mentors and friends for Take Stock in Children.
Receiving the Community Champion Award was ulltiumSM consulting, Inc. president & CEO Humberto Comellas, for his support in recruiting new mentors and raising overall awareness of the program in his community Miami Lakes, Florida.
“I was informed that the program had a shortage of mentors in Miami Lakes, with as many as 60 kids on a wait list.”
Mr. Comellas, a mentor himself for that past two years has undertaken yet another student.
Dividing his time between Miami Lakes Middle School and Hialeah Miami Lakes High School, where he mentors a child at each location.
By Promoting the program and hosting an informative and training session at the Comellas home, both Humberto and wife Maria were helpful in recruiting a number of new mentors.
“I can’t think of a more rewarding way to spend my time each week, than to help guide these two young men fulfill their potential and achieve a collage education” states Mr. Comellas.
“My goal remains to help ensure that every child on a wait list is suitably paired with a mentor”.
Take Stock in Children is a comprehensive program that helps low-income children succeed by providing college and vocational scholarships, volunteer mentors, student advocates/case managers, tutoring, early intervention and long-term support. High standards, parental involvement, and community support are crucial to the program's success.
